advice /əd'vaɪs/ n.劝告;忠告;建议

eg:You should follow his advice.

你应该听从他的劝告。

Can you give me a piece of advice about English learning?

你能就英语学习给我一条建议吗?

advice为不可数名词,表示“一条建议”常用a piece of advice,“两条建议”要用two pieces of advice,表示“许多建议”要用much advice。

常用短语:give sb. some advice=give some advice to sb.

给某人一些建议;

take one's advice 

接受某人的建议。

advise为动词,其固定结构有:advise sb. to do sth.,意为“建议某人做某事”,advise sb. not to do sth.,意为“建议某人不要做某事”。

eg:Everyone advised him to live with his daughter.每个人都建议他与女儿住在一起。

I advise you not to listen to music when you are doing your homework.

我建议你写作业时不要听音乐。

number /'nʌmbə(r)/ n.数字;号码

eg:The number of the students in our class is forty-five.

我们班的学生人数是四十五人。

辨析the number of与a number of

the number of

意为“……的数量或总数”,谓语动词要用单数形式。

a number of

意为“大量的,许多的”,谓语动词一般用复数形式。number前可用large,small来修饰。
